The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the GeoRiskPH, a multi-agency initiative led by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and monitored by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development which provides a range of information and tools such as hazard maps, risk assessments, early warning systems, and decision support tools that can help stakeholders identify areas of vulnerability, assess risks, and make informed decisions to reduce the impact of disasters.

A two-day training was also conducted and it was attended by the City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction & Management, Planning & Development Office and Engineering Office staff to equip them with knowledge of GeoMapperPH and other platforms of GeoRiskPH.

Governor Jerry Singson, Director DOST-PHIVOLCS Dr. Teresito C. Bacolcol, Regional Director DOST R01 Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog, Supervising Science Research Specialist OIC-Division Head, Geology and Geophysics Research and Development Mabeline T. Cahulogan and Provincial Administrator Marlon Tagorda were present during the signing.
