The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur has intensified its strict monitoring of exported live hogs in the province. As a receipt, 44 piglets were apprehended last 18 April at Narvacan from its alleged source in Abra and questioned due to lack of travel documents. The Provincial Veterinary Office took samples for the laboratory test and found it clear with any disease. Unfortunately 11 of the hogs died due to heat stress.
Thirty-three remaining hogs were distributed in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur upon the request of Municipal Mayor Germy Goulart. The beneficiaries were affected by ASF during the past years serving now as their livelihood assistance.
Along with the distribution were Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Donna Rosario, Focal Person Provincial Animal Quarantine Mr. Ogie Marañas and Caoayan Municipal Agriculturist Benedicta Quiocho.
